Since 1985
Long-Distance Moving from Simi Valley and Ventura County
The cheaper route out of California: we pack, clear and load your container.
Why customers trust BEST MOVE
Almost everyone who calls us about a long-distance move has already had one quote from a national van line, and it is the reason they are calling. Cross-country moving is priced per mile on weight, and for a full house going to Texas or Idaho the number is genuinely shocking.
There is a cheaper route, and we have been running it since 1985 as our “Get Out of California” division. We do not drive your belongings across the country — we are honest about that. We do the three things that actually decide what a long-distance move costs: we get rid of what you should not be paying to ship, we pack it properly, and we load the container so tightly that you rent fewer of them.
What we handle on a long-distance move
- Coordinating the container or trailer with the carrier — PODS, 1-800-Pack-Rat, U-Pack, ABF Freight and others
- Pre-move clearance through TRASH DAY, so you are not shipping what you do not want
- Full or partial packing, with materials at cost
- Professional loading — the part that decides how many containers you rent
- Pad-wrapping and strapping everything inside the container so it survives the road
- Loading a rental truck or trailer if you are driving it yourself
- Warehouse vault storage at either end if the dates do not line up
- One point of contact — Lyn or Gary — for the whole thing
Step by step
How it actually goes
-
Tell us where it is going, and roughly what is going
Destination, rough square footage, and your date range. That is enough for us to say which carriers serve the route and roughly how many containers a house that size normally takes.
-
Decide what does not go
This is where the money is. Shipping a garage full of things you will not unpack costs real money per cubic foot. TRASH DAY clears it before the container arrives — donated and recycled first.
-
Book the container, get it dropped
We coordinate with the carrier and have the container delivered to your driveway on the right day. You do not need to project-manage that.
-
Pack, then load
Usually a pack day followed by a load day. Loading is the skilled part — floor to ceiling, wall to wall, tied off in tiers so nothing shifts over two thousand miles of freeway.
-
The carrier takes it from there
They collect, ship and deliver on their schedule. At the far end you can unload it yourself, or we can help you find a crew local to your destination.
Questions
Long-Distance Moving questions we get asked
Not the one you needed? The full FAQ covers pricing, moving day and what we will and will not move — or just call and ask.
Do you drive my belongings to another state?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. We are a container-loading and coordination division, not a long-haul van line. The transit is done by the container carrier — PODS, 1-800-Pack-Rat, U-Pack, ABF Freight or similar. We do the packing, the clearance and the loading, which is the part that actually decides what the move costs.
How much cheaper is this than a van line?
It depends almost entirely on how much you ship and how well the container is packed, so anyone quoting you a flat percentage is guessing. What we can tell you is where the saving comes from: you pay a carrier’s published container rate instead of a per-mile premium on weight, you ship less because the junk went first, and tight loading routinely saves a whole container. Ask us what a house your size has actually cost to move to your destination, and we will tell you what we have seen.
Why does professional loading matter if I could load it myself?
Because you are renting volume, not weight. A container loaded loosely holds far less than the same container loaded properly, and the difference is frequently one entire extra container on the invoice. We have loaded well over a thousand of them, and the whole skill is in not paying to ship air.
Which container companies do you work with?
PODS, 1-800-Pack-Rat, U-Pack and ABF Freight most often, and others where they serve the route better. We are not tied to any of them and take no commission, so the recommendation is based on your destination and dates rather than on who pays us.
I am renting a truck and driving it myself. Can you just load it?
Yes, and it is one of the most common things we do on this side of the business. You drive; we load the truck or trailer properly so it is packed tight, balanced and tied off. It costs a few hours of crew time and it is the difference between arriving with your furniture intact and arriving with a shifted load.
What if my dates do not line up at the other end?
That is normal on a long-distance move and it is what storage is for. We can hold your goods in sealed vaults in our Newbury Park warehouse before the container ships, and most carriers will also store your container at their end for a monthly fee. Ask us to price both before you commit to a date.
Is there a move where a van line really is the better choice?
Yes. If you need door-to-door service on a guaranteed date, if the house is very large, or if you have a lot of high-value items that need full-value protection and a single carrier accountable for them, a traditional van line is genuinely the right answer. We will say so rather than sell you something that does not fit.
